The Kingston School of Art, a non-profit charitable organization, was formed in 1994. Governed by a community based volunteer Board of Directors, the School is supported by fundraising, student fees, donations and grants.
People involved in the School recognize the importance of art and believe that affordable fine arts programming should be available to the Kingston community. Volunteers are always welcome!
The Helen Stannard Memorial Fundraiser
Helen Stannard was a friend of Marta Scythes’, and thanks to Marta we honour Helen’s memory almost every year through these fundraising workshops. Helen was an important figure and friend to the KSOA too as one of our founding members.
She was at Dundas School of Art for years before coming to Kingston, to the studio in St. Lawrence College (where all the founding members came from, after the dismantling of the Visual & Creative Arts Program). As a printmaker, she printed in sepia ink exclusively and concentrated on images of the Maasai peoples, their animals and the landscape in Kenya.
I never had the pleasure of meeting her, but I’ve heard she had a wonderful sense of humour. I know she had a lovely family [I did meet her husband who was on the board when I joined] and that she died way too early, at 52. She was also a friend and collaborator of our Printmaking Facilitator, Margaret Bignell who has been with us since the beginning, hosting her Friday afternoon printmaking sessions.
The KSOA was important to Helen, and we are only too happy to host this memorial fundraising event to help keep her memory alive … with great appreciation to all of those people on our first board of directors, and many thanks to Marta! It’s been over 20 years now I’m proud to say, and I think that would make Helen (and the others) very happy indeed.

Payment of Fees
Cheque, cash and online payment with credit cards and through our PayPal account. To secure enrollment, full payment is required prior to the beginning of class. Post-dated cheques are accepted.
There is a free parking lot behind the building, off of Victoria Street, also on Victoria St.
The Kingston School of Art reserves the right to photograph classes and use the pictures for publicity. Should you object to the use of your or your child's photo in promotional materials, please inform the school in writing at the time of registration.
Refunds and Cancellation Policy
Full refunds are available if the school cancels the course. Cancellations by the student are accepted prior to the second class. This results in a $20 administration fee and payment for the first class.
No refunds are provided after the second class.
Class Make-Ups Policy
If the instructor needs to cancel a class, a make-up class will be scheduled and included in the course fee. If a student misses a class, no make-up time will be scheduled.
