Head Hands & Feet with Gaetanne Lavoie
Heads, hands and feet have often been thought of as the most challenging parts of the human body to draw. This 6 week mini-course concentrates on the necessary information and techniques so that you will soon be equipped to draw any head, any hand and any foot, both beautifully and anatomically accurate! Focuses include capturing: a likeness in a portrait, a variety of dynamic and simple positions of the hands and feet; foreshortened digits, tangents and creating depth. Paint Your Own Selfie with Natasha Jabre
< "Suzy & August" acrylic painting by our newest instructor find her CV at natashajabre.com In this acrylic portrait painting mini-course, students will create four portraits. Each week the focus will be on a different aspect of painting starting simple and progressing to more in-depth techniques. Students will learn the ins-and-outs of creating self-portraits the “old fashioned way.” Project Outcome for the students: You will observe, record, and structure a sequence of direct observations of your own face to produce a close approximation of your likeness. You will also be exposed to visual concepts like value, colour, and form, as well as painting techniques such as glazing and colour- mixing. All skill levels are welcome!

The Creative Impulse with Maureen Sheridan

This six-week course in acrylics is open to students of all levels who wish to advance their skills and creativity in painting. It is designed to make the student feel comfortable with the medium and to explore possibilities. Instruction and demonstrations will include basic colour theory, mixing, handling of paint and brushes and various painting techniques.

Life Drawing 3 with Bruce St. Clair
< long pose by Bruce [click on image for full view] Having built a good foundation of seeing/drawing skills relating to the human form, this last session will offer more time for individual expression, embracing figure drawing and painting as potentially 'finished' artwork. This will include attention to composing within the whole format through positioning, cropping, value structure and background. Again, please try and come a bit early to set up. Beginners with a passion for drawing are always welcome to join us. Price Includes Model's Fee.
Tuesdays 1:30 - 3:30 pm 9 weeks April 23 - June 25 [no class April 30]
Our second Art Safari is set to depart on April 24th! Join us for an 8-week expedition of discovery. We'll explore a different art medium each week. All materials supplied. You'll have a chance to try out collage, printmaking, watercolours, acrylics, drawing, mixed media, fibre art, and oils, in a fun, supportive group environment. To review the weekly itinerary and instructors for each medium, click on the button below. Once we have 5 registrations for the full 8 weeks, we'll open it up to a Pick 5, and individual sessions. One option is to split an 8-week registration with a friend, and each attend 4 sessions.

Observational Painting with a Dramatic Edge with Natasha Jabre
Throughout this four-week course, students will paint a polished still life from observation. Coloured stage lights will help add excitement to students’ take on the traditional painting genre, while techniques like glazing and optical colour mixing will help students establish convincing illusions on canvas

[the 3 images are figure studies by Gaetanne; click on them for enlarged view] Please Note Artist/Instructor, Marta Scythes will be stepping in on Feb 13, 20 & 27, 2019. Enjoy honing your drawing skills and creativity with a live model in 10 weekly sessions. Artists of every skill level are welcome! Individual assistance is given along with shared knowledge of body proportions, tips and tricks for capturing foreshortened features and so on. Illustrative handouts also provided. As always, artists are free to draw without instruction if they prefer.

Developing Your Oil, Acrylic or Pastel Painting with Bruce St. Clair

Thursday mornings provide a welcoming painting environment, energized by coffee and creativity. It's an 'open studio' format with assistance or instruction as needed, meeting challenges such as technique, colour creation, composition, perspective, getting a good likeness in that portrait, or just how to approach the painting from the start – how to build toward the creative effect you envision. Come for assistance with your work-in-progress, or guidance in beginning your new painting. Or just because you want to paint while enjoying the company and input of other painters! All levels of experience are welcome.

Whether you're new to the world of watercolour and just venturing down the rabbit hole, or are a seasoned traveler in the Wonderland of watercolours, come and join instructor Bruce St. Clair on Thursday afternoons. Beginners will learn the fundamentals of brush handling, colour creation, application of washes, and a variety of techniques using elements of the landscape, people, pets, and buildings as subject matter. More experienced painters will develop their skills in colour, composition and technical challenges. You will be encouraged to consider a wide range of painting styles and techniques.

The Everything (but Painting) Course with Bruce St. Clair
This comprehensive course is intended to cover the main 'mechanics' of art necessary for the creation of a successful painting. These fundamental skills will help bring confidence and success to your creative vision. Bruce has based this course on the various challenges he found to be common to many beginning and developing artists.
Drawing Accurately (the Secret of ...): Shapes, not things! (1 week); Light and Shadow for 3D shape and compositional patterns of light and dark (1 week); Perspective - Linear and Aerial: buildings, still life and landscape, reflections vs shadows(2 weeks); User-Friendly Colour Creation, Colour Temperature, and Colour as Value (2 weeks); Composition Made Simple, and working with photo-references (2 weeks); Drawing For Painting: Transferring the image to the painting surface (1 week)

Printmaking Open Studio with Margaret Bignell
