Learn the fundamentals of painting in acrylics or oil through exercises and projects. Achieve depth using the techniques of the old masters. Colour theory and how to use it to create mood and drama will be taught. This course is designed for beginners to intermediate skill levels and is an excellent choice for the first-timer! The novice will be assigned projects and will experiment with a variety of styles from abstraction to realism while experienced students may choose their own genre and reference material; all will have ample one-on-one time with the instructor.
"Anyone Can Paint, Part Two!" ...continue your studies. One-on-one demos, tricks for working from 3D references or photos, perfecting perspective, rules for good picture design & more colour exploration.

Life Drawing With Bruce St. Clair

There is no better practice for building your skills than drawing the human form. This course will both encourage the development of your personal expression and emphasize accuracy of observation. Each session will begin with short poses, gesture drawing, and then continue with a particular focus such as contour, foreshortening and ways of describing the form. But the main emphasis will be the joy of drawing!
By the way, try to come and get set up early so we can begin drawing from the model precisely at 1:30; doors will open at 1:15. Price includes Model Fees.

Can’t draw a straight line? No need to, I’ll show you the tricks I’ve learned over the years so that you'll be able to draw whatever subject you'd like, no matter how difficult. This course is filled with demonstrations and assignments designed for the development and honing of skills. For beginners to intermediate levels; an excellent choice for painters struggling with their drawing and first-timers. The novice will be given project references while experienced students may choose their own. Elements of study include: the value system, linear perspective made easy, working from 2D & 3D references, utilizing negative space and much more, all in a supportive and inspiring atmosphere.

Bruce's watercolour class, "From the Rabbit Hole to Wonderland" has proven to be very popular! Therefore he is offering another class Wednesday mornings 9:30 - 12:30 beginning Sept 26th. It is not too late to register and has been confirmed running. Find Details below under Thursdays. This course will run 10 weeks, 30 hours ending Nov 28th. Don't forget to call us if you are registering over the weekend from Thursday noon until Monday morning!
Life Drawing with Facilitator/Instructor
Enjoy honing your drawing skills and creativity with a live model in 10 weekly sessions. Artists of every skill level are welcome! Individual assistance is available upon request, but artists are free to draw without instruction if they prefer. Rebecca Spaulding hopes to return soon, we have the sessions covered with experienced artists who will follow her routine.
Model fees are included.

Thursday mornings provide a welcoming painting environment, energized by coffee and creativity. It's an 'open studio' format with assistance or instruction as needed, meeting challenges such as technique, colour creation, composition, perspective, getting a good likeness in that portrait, or just how to approach the painting from the start – how to build toward the creative effect you envision. Come for assistance with your work-in-progress, or guidance in beginning your new painting. Or just because you want to paint while enjoying the company and input of other painters! All levels of experience are welcome.

Whether you're new to the world of watercolour and just venturing down the rabbit hole, or are a seasoned traveler in the Wonderland of watercolours, come and join instructor Bruce St. Clair on Thursday afternoons. Beginners will learn the fundamentals of brush handling, colour creation, application of washes, and a variety of techniques using elements of the landscape, people, pets, and buildings as subject matter. More experienced painters will develop their skills in colour, composition and technical challenges. You will be encouraged to consider a wide range of painting styles and techniques.

Understand the different styles of abstract art and explore them with the medium of your choice [acrylic paint, ink, watercolour etc.] Add texture and mixed media to your work and see the result with your own creation.

Mold Making [Part 1] with Diane Black

How to Repeat Yourself …Making multiples of an object can open up a whole new and exciting set of options for 3D artwork! If the mold making process seems a bit of a mystery to you or if it's been a while since you explored the idea, these classes will cover the basics and then go beyond.
“Mold Making” is in two five week sessions; the first is appropriate for people without any experience, while Part 2 would be best for those who have done some mold making and anyone from the first five weeks. Topics covered in Part 1: making a positive using plasticine; producing a latex mold; making a plaster support; pouring plaster; releasing and cleaning the new positive.
Materials will be provided at a cost to the student; information on this price will be posted soon.

Mold Making [Part 2] with Diane Black

How to Repeat Yourself … This second part, best suited to those with a bit of experience making a mold (like from part 1) will cover the following techniques: making a positive using plasticine and other materials; producing a more complicated latex mold supported by plaster; finishing patina options and how to apply them; choices for casting materials as well as mounting possibilities.
Materials will be provided at a cost to the student, by the Instructor hence the deadlines; price will be posted soon.
