If you feel your work has suddenly reached a plateau or perhaps you’re suffering from creative block, this class is for you. The challenges are based on the needs of the individuals involved! Three hours a month devoted to constructive feedback, group discussions, and exposure to new ideas. Take the challenge in a supportive atmosphere and when opportunity knocks learn how to answer the call.

User-Friendly Colour Theory with Bruce St. Clair
Are you challenged by colour? Sometimes getting it right; maybe having success but not certain why? Learn to understand how to harness the energy of colour and make it work for you in your paintings and how to create the colours you want, using a double-primary colour wheel. As well, we will learn how to take advantage of colour attributes and harmonies as well as the importance of value relationships. Bring all of your supplies (medium of your choice) for this hands-on course, plus any work – Finished or in progress – that you would like to have critiqued.

Watercolour Landscapes - The Soft Touch with Sally Chupick
A loose and ethereal approach to painting watercolour landscapes. This workshop is for those who have a little or some watercolour painting experience, who wish to expand their skills in handling the medium. Sally will demomstrate her approach to watercolour and encourage experimentation of the process through two ‘quickie’ small format painting exercises. After this a longer painting session takes place to encourage experimentation in the process. Various watercolour techniques are introduced, as well as the all important quest for finding that ‘mood’, and how to go about expressing it in your painting.

Introduction to Pastel with Margaret Ferraro
This two day workshop begins with making a sample book of techniques, and studying their application in finished work. We do a little colour theory, studying value, and temperature, and how this relates to landscape, still life, and other subjects/modes of expression. Several projects are done in landscape, still life, and perhaps working from photos. Individual projects are also possible. The students will acquire a basic understanding of pastel application techniques, and an appreciation for the wonderful spontaneous medium of pastel.

Seven Steps to Realism with Bruce St. Clair
Do you sometimes have a desire to paint your subject matter the way it "really looks", with a sense of presence, more convincing textures etc? This workshop, which embraces all subject matter and all skill levels, will guide you through a seven-step progression leading to realistic painting using techniques that help all artists to achieve greater quality and depth in their work! It will emphasize the importance of accurate drawing, value dynamics, modeling, spacial relationships and making the most of your photo references, including an easy-to-use proportional diagonal grid.We will paint practice samples of a variety of subjects, so bring photo references of typical subject matter such as landscape elements, still life, interiors etc., plus the reference you intend to use to begin a painting. (Please bring photocopies as well for grid purposes.) You are also welcome to bring works in progress that you would like help with. This workshop applies to all mediums, but for the sake of limited drying time in class, watercolours or acrylics are probably best.

Setting yourself up to fail Write with Robert George Johnston
Have you ever wanted to write, but didn’t know where to start? Perhaps, you’re out of practice and don’t know how to begin again? Maybe you’re setting yourself up to fail. Learn how to switch around your approach from not writing, to writing with this practical and gentle approach to get you back into your creative space. You’ll be guided through introspective exercises that will assist you to identify your hurdles and help you to develop strategies and techniques to work around those inner obstacles. Whether you’re a beginning writer or always felt that you had a story to get out into the world, or maybe you want to transition from an amateur to a professional writer, learn the misconceptions that people have about being a writer and learn the practical do’s and don’ts of how to set yourself up to write. But most of all learn to enjoy the process of writing.

Self-Publishing for Fun
and Profit & Selling and Promoting
your Self-Published Book

Whether you’re an established writer or working on your first book, this workshop will give you the information and the tools that you’ll need to guide you through your first self-publishing project. Participants will actively take part in the class, to determine where they are in the self-publishing process, identify their roadblocks and potential stumbling blocks that will slow their publishing projects down or bring them to a complete halt. Once the roadblocks are identified, participants will be encouraged to develop strategies to gather information, acquire the skills and the confidence to turn their dream into reality.
This intensive, kick-in-the-pants workshop will help you identify the areas where your sales strategy is lacking. Participants will complete self-assessing questions to determine where they are in their plan to get their work out into the world. Italic Calligraphy with Rick Draffin
This workshop will introduce you to Italic Calligraphy starting with a history of the letter forms then the use of pen and ink to discover “beautiful writing”. The emphasis will be “hands on” with thorough explanations of nibs, ink, gouache and papers. Students with previous training in calligraphy are welcome and can be given specific instruction on variations to the basic alphabet.

Landscape Paint & Stitch with Sylvia Naylor
Have fun on this two day workshop exploring the natural landscape with fabric and thread.
First we will look at a variety of pictures to illustrate design principles. Then enjoy a liberating way of designing by making a paper collage. Non-toxic fabric paints will be used to colour cotton for the background
Commercial cottons will be used for landscape features to be added using fused appliqué.
Instruction will be given in using free motion machine embroidery to create grasses flowers, trees and shrubs. Finally add a few hand stitches to complete your masterpiece.
(Suitable for all levels)
