Kids

smART Kids • Lesley Jardine
Tuesdays, Sep. 23-Nov. 25 • 5-6:30 pm • $125 non-members (10 wks)
Each week children will experience a new medium: nontoxic printmaking, sculpting with air drying clay, painting in watercolours and acrylics, pastels with a couple of open studios (student choices) thrown in for a good measure of kid friendly creative fun. smART KIDs' projects are developed for building confidence. We encourage freedom of self expression and individuality while stretching imaginations. Taxes and materials included.

Zoom! Blam! Splat! • Mark Julien
Thursdays, Sep. 25-Nov. 27 • 5:30-7 pm • $125 non-members (10 wks)
This course explores the art of the comic book. Students will be introduced to all elements of comic book design, such as constructing the figure, character design, basic perspective, panel layout and color theory. Students will be encouraged to create their own characters, plot single paged scripts and push the boundaries of their imaginations. Taxes and materials included.

Saturdays: Sept 27, Oct 25, Nov 15, 22, Dec 6 • 10:30 am-12 pm and/or Sundays: Oct 5, 19, Nov 2, 23 Dec 7 • 10:30 am-12 pm • $75 Saturdays only (5 wks) or Sundays only (5 wks) or $125 for all dates offered (10 wks)
This course is designed for the young artist to learn the techniques of watercolour with emphasis on expressing individual style. Topics will include getting started with the basic materials, mixing paint, basic washes, brushwork skills, working with colour, colour mixing, and composition. All techniques will be presented with a fun, hands-on approach. Students are not required to have any experience, but are encouraged to have an enthusiastic imagination as there are no limits to what they can create!

Youth

Depth Discovery! • Lesley Jardine
Thursdays, Sep. 25-Nov. 27 • 5-7 pm • $160 non-members (10 wks)
Learn the basics of how to transform simple sketches into pictures that "pop" right out of the picture plane! During the length of this beginner course, participants will learn how to properly display depth within a picture by studying the key elements of depth, focusing on light and shadow, and learning to use one- and two-point perspective in a fun and relaxing environment. The main emphasis of this course will centre on pencil and paper drawings… but be prepared to have fun working with charcoals, pastels, and paint! Taxes and materials included.

Some Fridays, Oct. 3, 17, 24, Nov. 7, 21, Dec. 5 • 3:30-5:30 pm • second half begins Jan. 23 (see upcoming winter brochure for details) • $115 (1/term 6 wks); $205 (2/terms 12 wks); private tutoring $20/hr
This course is custom-designed for the student who dreams of a career in the artistic realm. All assignments take into consideration the specs requested by most colleges and universities. Students will develop confidence and the ability to think outside the box. The freedom of choice and interpretation makes this course of great interest to any young artist wishing to develop their skills. Over the course of two terms, students will have the opportunity to explore a minimum of five different mediums as they observe the various elements of shape, space, texture, light, shadow and so on. These fundamental skills are prerequisite for careers in architecture, interior decorating, fashion, graphic design as well as fine arts, drawing, painting, sculpture, etc. Students should come prepared with pen and journal. Some materials are supplied. A list will be provided at first class.
