Mixed media allows one to approach creativity from a fresh perspective to drawing.
Incorporate a variety of recycled materials, including magazines, coloured paper, newspapers, machine parts, string, fabric, and threads into your creations, in addition to paint, pastels, ink, and printed text! Bring in your own items, whether household or personal, to add a distinctive touch and personal significance to your artworks.

Advanced Learn to Draw
Focus on composition and technique development, with an emphasis on strong composition and colour! Explore a variety of materials, both traditional and experimental, and learn to analyze compositions and spatial arrangements.
Learn to Draw 2 enhances basic skills and introduces new media, locations and techniques, drawing from a variety of sources, heightening sensitivity to line, colour, tone, texture, transparency, and layout.

Drawing the Portrait
Capture the most individualistic part of a person - the face!
Students will be guided through creating studies of the head and facial features, and learn techniques for effective drawings, through the collective quest of capturing a likeness.
Upon completing the course, students will have a finished portrait, for which they can provide as their own reference!

Winter Watercolours
Discover the beauty of painting the Ontario winter landscape using a limited palette!

Oil Painting Basics
Unlock your artistic potential and delve into the captivating world of oil painting with teaching artist Lisa Leskien.
This course is specially designed for beginners who are eager to explore the versatile
medium of oil painting using water-mixable oils. Throughout this engaging and hands-on course, students will learn fundamental techniques and principles of oil painting, guided by Lisa's expert instruction and supportive feedback.
Each class session will include demonstrations by Lisa, individualized instruction, and plenty of time for hands-on practice. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with different subjects, from still life to landscapes, and develop their oil painting skills under Lisa's guidance.

Alla Prima Portraits
This course considers the model in situ. Students are encouraged to include the figure and surrounding environment in their choices of composition. Students draw with the paint brush the proportional sizes & shapes of the planes of the head/ figure paying attention to directional lines of the composition. Students develop the paintings in staged steps of the alla prima process and make choices based on completing the structural building blocks of the underpainting before making the next move.
Students select and mix colours based on value, chroma and temperatures contrasts. Students manipulate tools to make brushwork an integral component of their mark making and choice of degree of finishing.
This course is in oils and students can elect to use a limited or full palette of colours.

Acrylic Painting for Beginners

Weilding The Artist's Knife
Learn how to use one of the most forgotten tools in painting: the palette knife!
Explore the versatility of the tool, not only for mixing paints, but to create your very own paintings with it as well. Likened to an extension of your arm, learn to swing, measure, and try your hand at a different style.

Linocut Printmaking
Relief printmaking is AMAZING!
Join Lisa Leskien as she guides students through the process of linocut printmaking on paper, and fabric! Students will learn how to transfer the image to the block, carving techniques, registering the image , and hand-printing. More advanced techniques will be explored including reduction and puzzle techniques to create larger multi-colour prints.
At the end of the course, students will have a single colour print series, printed on paper, cards, a notebook, and a tote bag, and a larger, multi-colour print on paper (ready to be framed and/or given as gifts!). Let’s get inky!

Printmaking Open Studio
Come and explore various printmaking techniques in a friendly supportive environment! A supervised studio for printmakers. Facilities are available for creating monoprints, monotypes, etchings, collagraphs, linocuts, and woodcuts.

Mini Painted Creations

Branding For Artists

Course Refund Policy
- Full refunds are available if the school cancels the course.
- Cancellations by the student made at least a week before the class starts will be given a 100% refund, minus a $20 admin fee.
- Cancellations made between 3 and 7 days before the class starts will be given an 70% refund minus the $20 admin fee.
- Cancellations made after the first class but before the second class will be given a 50% refund minus the $20 admin fee. We are not able to issue refunds for cancellations made after the second class. A credit to the registrant's account may be offered, or, if space is available, the option to switch to another class.
