APRIL - WeekEND
Paint Like Tom Thomson with Bruce St Clair
Tom Thomson led his Toronto design-studio friends out into the Canadian North to tackle Nature-in-the-raw, borrowing something of the vision of the French Impressionists. After his untimely and mysterious death, these friends formed the Group of Seven, continuing his legacy of 'en plein air' painting. Although Tom created some fine and memorable studio paintings, it's his field studies on small birch panels that seem to bring us closest to his surge of inspiration, the creative impulse.
In this workshop, selecting from one of his well-known images, we'll imitate Tom's direct approach to interpreting what he saw, working in oil or acrylic on birch panel. Material List
