Sept. 23: Intro to Watercolours, with Bruce St. Clair: Learn to "go with the flow" to create beautiful
W/C washes, as well as various other brush techniques, and start having fun with this luminous medium.
Sept. 30: Origami with Majella Turcotte. Yes, origami can be challenging, but not always! This class will be two hours of pure enjoyment, learning folding techniques to make a fancy card, an origami table ornament, and a clever wallet. After this evening, you may never want to stop folding again!
Oct. 7: Intro to drawing with Marta Scythes: Learn the fundamentals of drawing and properties of the materials in a relaxed, fun and supportive environment. Increase your observation skills, explore different line and shading techniques and gain confidence in the process!
Oct. 14: The Art of the Handmade Stitch, with Bethany Garner. Creating a small needle case in our two hours together using provided felt,, batting for the needle pages, threads and needles in a provided kit, the students will explore the joy of using fibre as a medium for creating small artworks that are original and will find a useful place in their home or as a gift for friends or family.
Oct. 21: Carbon Dust painting, with Marta Scythes: Explore the intrigue of black, grey and white images using additive/subtractive, dry media painting. Attention will be given to the effective use of varying values to achieve strong contrast and dramatic mood. Two subjects will be studied: botanical and landscape.
Oct. 28: Mail Art with Majella Turcotte. Learn how to send "JOY" in the mail! This two hour workshop will inspire you to create beautiful letters and envelopes, to bring delight to friends and family. Many lovely embellishments will be used to create one-of-a-kind mail art pieces, and inspire you to continue this relaxing art form.
Nov. 4: Stencil Art - Prints, Paints and Canvas, with Bethany Garner. During this two-hour Intro to cutting and using your own handmade stencils for creating canvas prints that can be used for journal covers, small framed artworks is our evening workshop goal. Students will receive a small kit including a canvas on frame, mylar for stencils, and will use the Instructor’s cutting tools to create their personal stencil design. Paints, brushes will be provided.
Nov. 11: Life Drawing with a clothed model with Nicholas Crombach. Your chance to draw from a live model! Life drawing is a fundamental part of art education, essential in learning and practising observation and drawing skills. Nicholas will remove some of the mystery!
Nov. 18: Splashing with Colour with Nancy Steele. Find out how to make colour relationships pop using values, intensities and temperatures. Discover the joy of mixing and applying exciting colours to bring a small observational painting to life.
Nov. 25: Printmaking w/ Barb Carr & Margaret Bignell: In this session, you'll find out about some of the possibilities that printmaking has to offer! Barb and Margaret will introduce the many ways of doing printmaking, and will lead you through two fun projects: monoprinting using the printing presses, and linocuts which you can do at home.

Dec. 3: Collage, with Barb Carr. No need to draw! Collage is basically cutting and pasting, but the possibilities are endless. The term collage was coined by both Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso in the beginning of the 20th century when collage became a distinctive part of modern art. We’ll work on two projects, one using magazines and one using tissue paper.
