Learn Acrylics
Saturdays, 10-12 pm

In this welcoming beginner‑friendly acrylic course, adult students will build a strong foundation in painting through clear instruction, hands‑on practice, and a supportive studio atmosphere. Learners will explore essential techniques such as colour mixing, layering, blending, and composition while developing the confidence to approach a blank canvas with curiosity rather than hesitation.
Through guided exercises and a completed final artwork, students gain practical skills, a repeatable creative process, and the joy of seeing their abilities grow week by week. The objective of this course is to introduce beginners to the core tools, techniques, and creative habits of acrylic painting, empowering them to create expressive, finished pieces with both skill and delight.
Each week will hold a different themed art based practice in play, experimentation, expression, mark making, finding your artistic voice and colour palette. Students will be painting their masterpiece on a 12"x12"canvas, a take home work booklet with homework prompts. Please text see below for required supply list.
Supplies to be Provided by Student: Paint: Phthalo Blue, Cadmium Red, Magenta, Primary Yellow, Titanium White, Zinc white, carbon black, Gel medium (matte or gloss) (no need to get premium paints, this is introductory!)
Brushes: Flat #1,6,8; Filbert #1,6,8; Round # 0.5, 1, 6, 8;
Palette paper; 12"x12" canvas;
acrylic art paper (SML ART Acrylic Paper[A3 sizing]);
Paint On Multi-Technique Paper, BienFang Canvasette [12'x16' or A3 sizing];
Pencils (HB and 4B); Palette knife (Jack Richeson Plastic Wide Painting Knife);
Paint Pallette (If you'd like to have you own, but basic ones are offered onsite).

Harvey Tolentino-Doniego is a Queer Filipino Multidisciplinary Emerging Artist Educator, and Creative based in Kingston, Ontario. With a strong passion for community engagement and artistic expression, Harvey has made meaningful contributions to Kingston’s art scene. They have worked as an Emerging Artist Educator with the Kingston School of Art and as a Guest Artist Educator for the Agnes Etherington Art Centre’s summer programs and Creation Station.
They worked as a Program and Events assistant with the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning. Harvey has also recently programmed community art shows and events with Artery/Trellis HIV/AIDS Community care centre. They also work as a Gallery Ambassador for Cultivate Art Commons. Harvey loves to create workshops and events that are inclusive, empowering and connect the community to Nature. |
