Moments of Colour: Thinking Like an Oil Painter
This course places an emphasis on the relationship between colours including the tension created between warm and cool to create moments within a painting. Students will begin to think about creating relationships between the colours mixed atop the palette before beginning to paint. Students will learn how to utilize an indirect painting method beginning with the generalization of colour and moving into specificity, as the painting further develops to create shape and form. Students will have the choice to paint a portrait or still life (Choices of reference images will be provided). Our first class will review the planes of the face and its anatomy providing a guide for students should they choose to paint a portrait.
Although this class is designed to challenge students' understanding of colour, those with no experience in painting or drawing who are passionate about creating are welcome. Students will be encouraged to take risks and have fun!
