Realism in Oil: A Beginner's Class
Geared toward beginners with little to no experience in oil painting, the objective of this course is to provide students with a basic understanding of how to construct a realistic oil painting with Teaching Artist Brandon Liesen! Using a limited palette of colours, minimal solvents, and with special emphasis on composition, value, and colour, this course will provide straightforward instruction of how to work in layers to paint a realistic image using oils. Intermediate painters are welcome as well!
Registrants are required to bring their own materials. For the first class please be prepared to bring 1 HB and 1 2B pencil, and a 9x12" pad of paper. Brandon will go over any questions about the materials needed for the rest of the class! Please see the notes section for the rest of the materials list.
A note on materials: it is advisable to purchase and use the best/highest quality ones you can afford. That said, materials are expensive…do your best…invest the most in higher quality paints and supports…save with brushes, gessoes, and palette. Use old mason jars, etc.
