Pre-Teen & Teen Classes (Ages 10 - 15)
Illustration Using TTRPGs
Using Tabletop Roleplaying Games to inspire creative design -- we will cover how different games create characters, settings, campaigns, and ideas and how we can illustrate them. Games such as Dungeons & Dragons and Ironsworn (fantasy worldbuilding and characters), The Quiet Year (worldbuilding and setting), Starforged, StarWars5e (sci fi character and worldbuilding), etc. will be used. Students will be keeping a journal that tracks their progress. It will be a class combining creative writing, gaming, and illustration/design. Teen Classes (Ages 13 - 17)
Drawing for Teens
Through a series of projects using photo reference, students will practice foundational drawing techniques and be guided through the process of creating finished pieces! Everyone is encouraged to work at their own pace and there is no expected amount of pieces they should finish. Returning students, or those who show understanding of the techniques covered in the first couple projects, have the option to bring in their own references! If you're looking to build your confidence and skill to tackle a drawing, regardless of the subject matter, then this is for you! Youth Drawing Fundamentals
This workshop is aimed at the beginner young artist who has the desire to learn drawing fundamentals and has little to no previous experience. Topics covered will include perspective, values and light, line types, composition, figure drawing, gesture drawing, life drawing, portraits, facial expressions, and emotional storytelling. This course is a great opportunity for young artists looking to build their foundational art skills. Head to Toe
Working in dry media, you will create a series of studies of the human body! Through these you will develop an understanding of the forms and movement of the body, and learn to simplify the structures of the figure for compelling and effective drawings. Starting with the head and portrait, this course will cover body parts in isolation, before putting it all together. Throughout the course we also discuss and problem-solve a variety of topics such as foreshortening, posing, capturing a likeness, expression, and more. Printmaking for Teens
Linocut Printmaking for Teens will focus on guiding students through carving a block, the registering and printing process (both by hand and with a press), and signing an edition of prints. Portfolio Preparation
Intended for students who are working towards completing a portfolio for post-secondary education, this course will be a space to receive feedback and support as they work on creating a strong, curated set of pieces. This is an independently structured class; to start we will discuss what will stand out to the programs you are considering, and the goals for your portfolio. Students should be prepared to take some initiative outside of class for preliminary work such as gathering references. Basic materials are provided, but students may be encouraged to buy materials for their personal use depending on what kind of work they are doing.
